SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement to Provide Meals for Selected Charter School Sites (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Student Nutrition Services (SNS) has been asked to provide meal service to the following charter schools for the 2012/2013 school year under the district's sponsorship of the National School Lunch Program:

  • Florida Autism Center of Excellence (attachment 1)
  • King's Kids Academy of Health Sciences (attachment 2)
  • New Springs Elementary School (attachment 3)
  • New Springs Middle School (attachment 4)
  • W.E. Phillips Learning Academy (attachment 5)

The agreement shall be in effect retroactively from August 20, 2012, through June 7, 2013, due to giving Charter Schools the opportunity to study the new United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations and determine the best way for them to meet the new meal patterns.  Under the agreement, SNS is responsible for approving free and reduced applications, furnishing food and supplies for meal service, and providing technical assistance.  The charter school is responsible for adhering to meal accountability procedures, serving the correct menu items, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the service of food.

The meals served in charter schools are included as part of the SNS monthly federal reimbursement claim.  The charter schools will be invoiced monthly for student "full pay" meals, adult meals, emergency meals, and any other meals that cannot be claimed as free or reduced.
