Adoption of Proclamation - Hillsborough County Public Schools Head Start Program Recognizes October as Head Start Awareness Month (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The mission of the Head Start Program is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The Head Start Program serves 1,812 three and four year olds in 51 school sites by providing two program options: full day/part-year and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK). The health and nutrition aspects of the program have improved the prevention, detection, and treatment of children's medical, dental, and nutritional problems. This enhances their cognitive skills which help the children prepare for kindergarten, thereby, removing barriers to growth and learning. In recognition of "Head Start Awareness Month," Head Start Programs across the country will acknowledge and celebrate the program that has made a difference in so many lives. In Hillsborough County, various Head Start Awareness activities took place during the month of October.
