Approve Award of Contract for Roof Replacement at 2 Sites (Grady Elementary School and LaVoy Exceptional Center)

On October 26, 2010, The Board approved the issuance of approximately $37,935,000 of Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCBs) for renovation of roofs and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at various District sites.  The QSCBs provided for acceleration of roof and HVAC renovations previously scheduled in the District Facilities Five Year Work Program.  The roof renovations are being executed in phases to avoid over-tasking available roofing contractors and ensure competitive pricing. (QSCB funded projects are indicated in the attachment.)

District staff combined requirements for replacement of a portion of the roofs at Grady Elementary School and LaVoy Exceptional Center into a single project and selected C. B. Goldsmith and Associates, Inc.  from the approved Continuing Services Consultants list to provide design services.

The project was advertised and bids received (see attached bid tabulation).  Award of the contract for construction to the low bidder, Southern Roofing Company, Inc., is recommended.
