SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Contract with the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Child Care Food Programs to Provide Dinner Meals (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, passed by Congress in December 2010, authorized the service of after-school meals or dinners in all states through the Child Care Food Program (CCFP).  Approval of this contract would allow dinner meals to be provided to children attending: Just, Potter, Sulphur Springs, and B.T. Washington Elementary Schools.  Through the addition of this new program, Student Nutrition Services (SNS) is pleased to expand the accessibility of nutritious meals to children.

These schools meet the criteria where at least half of the children are eligible for free and reduced priced school meals.  Schools who offer dinner programs must also offer educational activities after the regular school day ends.  Any child involved in after-school activities at one of the four schools listed can participate in the dinner program free-of-charge.  Parents do not have to complete a special application for this new meal program.  To receive federal reimbursement dollars through the CCFP, SNS must submit the number of meals served and provide meals that meet United States Department of Agriculture requirements for nutrients and calories.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
•Â Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
The dinner program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.
