SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Amendment 1 to the Original Agreement for Technical Services with OnHand Schools for Professional Development for Hard-to-Measure Grants B and G (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On August 9, 2012, a contract was approved with OnHand Schools (Board Item A 5.18) to provide workshops to deliver professional development in item writing and item reviewing for the statewide Hard-to-Measure Grants, Project B (Physical Education/Health Education) and Project G (Career and Technical Education). The original contract has been fulfilled, with OnHand providing outstanding training. A need for additional training has arisen and Amendment 1 to the original Agreement for Technical Services for Projects B and G is being submitted for approval.
Through the Race to the Top grant, the Hillsborough County Public Schools was awarded two additional grants to create and review assessment items in two Hard-to-Measure (HTM) subject areas. The items to be created and reviewed were for courses in Physical Education/Health Education (Project B) and Career and Technical Education (Project G). A portion of each of the two grants was dedicated specifically for professional development training for teachers in the district and throughout the state. The professional development is intended to deliver training to these teachers on writing items and reviewing the effectiveness of these items. The intent of the grant is to allow an independent provider to present the training to ensure that the participants become more effective item writers and reviewers. Due to an influx of new participants from across the district and state on both projects, as well as the implementation of the statewide Florida Department of Education Item Bank, additional in-depth training on developing constructed response and performance task items and their associated rubrics is needed. OnHand Schools will provide approximately 311 additional hours of training for the 2 projects. |
|
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The amendment to the contract totals $62,271 and will be split between Project B and Project G. The financial impact for each project will be $31,135.50. Funding is provided through the Hard-to-Measure Grants in Physical Education/Health Education and Career and Technical Education.
EVALUATION | |
The performance will be evaluated through two sources, which consist of a survey completed by conference attendees and a performance rubric created and scored by the project manager. These two sources will provide a comprehensive evaluation for the effectiveness and value received from OnHand Schools, Inc. for this professional development opportunity.
