SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Contract with Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office (DACCO), Inc.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The district operates alternative education sites to serve students who have been given a change of placement from their regular schools because they have committed Level One offenses or have demonstrated continuous disruptive behavior.  DACCO provides supportive services for these sites, which includes the delivery of evidence-based practice curricula and counseling for substance abuse prevention.  In the 2013/2014 school year, DACCO will provide counselors at the following sites:  Brandon Alternative, North Tampa Alternative, and Dorothy Thomas Exceptional Center.  Each counselor serves approximately 25-30 students.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The School Board provides DACCO with $50,000 to pay in part for the services provided and provides space for the counselors at the school sites.  DACCO provides funds for grants and other sources to support the implementation of these services.  This item is included in the Part 1 Budget for 2013/2014.
EVALUATION
DACCO provides quarterly reports of the progress of participating students that include, but are not limited to, data such as behavioral changes as a result of counseling and the number of students who successfully complete the evidence-based practice curricula.  These quarterly reports are summarized in a year-end report that will be completed by June 30, 2014.
