While the District has for some time used T8 fluorescent lighting in new and renovated facilities, T12 lighting remains at many locations throughout the District. Manufacturing and importing of T12 lamps has ceased, and available rebate programs associated with the upgrade of T12 lighting to T8 technology are expiring. To avoid supply shortages and take advantage of available rebates, retrofit of the remaining T12 fixtures throughout the District is required. 

District staff accomplished a preliminary survey of requirements and solicited unit price bids for the retrofit. To increase opportunities for small businesses, staff solicited pricing for both a "turnkey" option (retrofit contractor provides the lamps and ballasts), and a "retrofit-only" option wherein the District separately purchases the lamps and ballasts.

A total of 17 firms responded to the solicitation. As indicated on the attached tabulation, the option wherein the District purchases the lamps and ballasts directly provides the lowest overall cost.  Award of unit price contracts to Tamco Electric Inc. for lighting retrofits and Mayer Electric Supply Company, Inc. for lamps and ballasts, the firms providing the lowest estimated total costs for the respective services as indicated on the attachment, is recommended.
