Approve Memorandum of Agreement between Starting Right, Now and The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL (Instructional Support Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Starting Right, Now is a program meeting the needs of the growing population of homeless families and children in Hillsborough County.  This organization has developed a working relationship with the school district to help homeless high school students.  Once identified and accepted, the homeless student works with a volunteer mentor from the community, who becomes their advocate to develop and implement a plan to help them reach on time graduation and to propel them to their highest education potential with military, vocational education or college.  This agreement will allow for one-fifth of one ten-month school social worker's time each week to work with Starting Right, Now to assist more students with these services.  The provider, Starting Right, Now, will pay salary and benefits associated with this position in the amount of $12,000.

The provider has agreed to work in cooperation with staff and in partnership with other educators and community agency representatives.  The district will provide office space and phone service, when feasible.  Approximate in-kind support from the district for this service is $5,420.
EVALUATION
Program services are evaluated by the Executive Director for Starting Right, Now and Supervisor of School Social Work Services.  Input will also be sought from the administrators and school social workers of the participating schools.
