EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
In 2012, the National Science Foundation awarded $1,210,115 to the University of South Florida (USF) to support the project entitled Tampa Bay Robert Noyce Master Teacher Fellows (MTF) Program, which provides professional development and salary supplements for 20 exemplary mathematics and science teachers to become MTF. Of that amount, $4,830 is dedicated to project services rendered by the Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Supervisor of Middle School Mathematics.
The goals of the USF Robert Noyce MTF Program are to prepare MTF to assume leadership roles within their schools and the District so they can mentor and support other in-service teachers and prepare MTF to assume supportive roles in the USF teacher education program so they can support preservice teachers by serving as mentors, supervising teachers, and co-instructors. Participation of MTF will assist the District with attracting, training, and retaining mathematics and science teachers, which persistently remain critical shortage areas. Master Teacher Fellows in this program will have a Master’s Degree in Education or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related fields, demonstrated subject matter knowledge, and have a record of effective teaching as defined through HCPS Empowering Effective Teachers initiative. |
