EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Battle of the Books began 19 years ago in Hillsborough County Public Schools with 6 schools competing in the first Elementary Battle of the Books. In 2005, the first Middle School Battle of the Books was held with 12 schools participating. In 2008, the first High School Reading Rumble, which is the high school version of the Battle of the Books, was held with 5 schools competing in the event. In 2005, ESE held their first Battle of the Books with 3 schools participating. The Battle has grown over the years and this year there are students from over 144 elementary schools, 46 middle schools, 18 high schools, and 7 ESE centers participating.

These are exciting events at each level where students compete by answering questions about the books they have read to score points for their team.  At all levels, students on the winning teams are given awards and the championship battle teams are given a traveling trophy to proudly display at their schools until the next year’s battle takes place.
