SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Renew the Contract with Hill+Knowlton Strategies for Communications Services (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In the coming year, the district will reach major milestones in the Empowering Effective Teachers (EET) initiative (such as the new teacher pay plan) that will require strategic and thorough communication.  Hill+Knowlton Strategies will assist with marketing, consultation, branding, briefings with Board members, and overall support in accomplishing these initiatives.  Since 2010, Hill+Knowlton has partnered with the district to communicate the importance and relevance of all aspects of the EET initiative, cultivating institutional and community support, and keeping employees and the public informed at key stages in the process.

In the past year, Hill+Knowlton played a key role in designing and launching the Our Students, Our Future branding, establishing Partners in Education, and creating a district communications plan related to the Common Core State Standards.

By design, the amount budgeted for communications services has decreased significantly over time, (last year the not-to-exceed contract amount was $220,000 compared to the $150,000 proposed this year), as the EET initiative has become the district’s “way of work.”

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
•Â Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The contract is not to exceed $150,000 and will be funded by the district's Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grant.
EVALUATION
Evaluation will involve multiple indicators measuring awareness and support of Empowering Effective Teachers.
