SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Revised Job Description for Professional Standards Investigator III.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The current job description, originally approved July 16, 2013, requires an applicant to have a minimum of the Reserve 3 Commission, which is obtained through the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.  Due to a change in policy in the Sheriff's Office, they will no longer offer the Reserve 3 Commission to new applicants.  As a result of this notification to the School District on October 4, 2013, the recommendation is to remove the requirement of Reserve 3 Commission, and replace it with "Commissioned".  In addition, remove from the experience required in "Armed Security". This will allow for deputies from other law enforcement agencies who have maintained their commission to be eligible for future vacancies in our District.  This change will not affect those investigators already commissioned by the Sheriff's Department.   The Sheriff's Office will continue to look for ways to reconsider the Reserve 3 Commission, but until they are able to develop a plan, the new job description will allow for our District to employee highly qualified law enforcement officers.  Revised job description attached.

EVALUATION
The Office of Professional Standards will continually review the level of work and law enforcement authorization required for a Professional Standards Investigator III to perform the essential functions of their position within the District and make the necessary changes to uphold the high expectations of this position.
