Approve the Piggyback of Bid #11-60:  Various Equipment and Amenities for Parks and Playgrounds Between Shade Systems, Inc. and St. Johns County, Florida for the Purchase and Installation of Sunshades

To provide additional options and competition in sunshade purchases, staff proposes to piggyback St. Johns County bid #11-60 with Shade Systems, Inc. through expiration of the agreement (as renewed) on August 7, 2014. 

Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) rule 6A-1.012 allows purchases from contracts awarded by other government agencies, district school boards, Department of Management Services (DMS), etc., at or below specified prices.

The St. Johns County bid pricing (attached) includes a 25% discount off list prices for sunshades. Shade Systems has previously provided favorable pricing for several shade installations.

Shade Systems, Inc.'s agreement with St. Johns County includes an option for additional renewals. The Superintendent is authorized to approve extensions of the District's use of the agreement through the term of any renewals executed by St. Johns County.

Expenditures for sunshade purchases were $203,657.82 for FY 2012 - 2013. Sunshades are typically funded by a combination of donated, school and District matching funds.
