SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Design Development Phase for Building Envelope Renovation at Hill Middle School
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On July 30, 2013 the Board appointed C. B. Goldsmith and Associates, Inc. and Walbridge-Aldinger Company to provide design and construction management services for a project to address water intrusion and the potential failure of the brick exterior at Hill Middle School. Following extensive destructive investigation, the project team has identified the specific areas requiring corrective repairs and has developed a proposed design for the brick replacement, as reflected in the attachment. The proposed scope of work includes removal of the brick on selected exterior walls and replacement with a thin brick system matching the existing appearance. Repair of corroded structural members and replacement of the exterior windows and doors is included in the project scope. As noted in the attachment, the recommended wall system will provide greater insulation than currently exists, yielding long-term energy cost savings. Approval of the design development phase will allow the design professional to proceed with construction documents. Project completion is scheduled for August 2014. |
