SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Agreement Between Hillsborough County Public Schools and Bucs Care Charities for Bucs Care/Fitness Zones at District Elementary Schools

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Over the past four years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Charity Organization (Bucs Care Charities) has partially funded the construction of eight covered play courts at Hillsborough County public schools.  These covered courts have been installed at Carver Exceptional Center, Davis Elementary, Foster Elementary, Lanier Elementary, LaVoy Exceptional Center, Mort Elementary, Potter Elementary and Sulphur Springs Elementary Schools.

Bucs Care Charities has expressed a desire to enter into a ten year agreement with Hillsborough County Public Schools to establish Bucs Care/Fitness Zones at district elementary schools.  Fitness Zones include the installation of covered courts and provide for programming of fitness activities.  The agreement provides for an annual commitment of funds from Bucs Care Charities to fund 50% of the costs of installation of covered courts at elementary schools jointly determined by school district staff and Bucs Care Charities.  Bucs Care Charities will be responsible for 100% of any team branding that is displayed on the structure.  Each year, the school district will verify that matching funds are available to continue the program for that year.  If school district matching funds are not available, the program will be suspended for that year.

Currently, 11 additional schools are planned to be included in the program for this school year.  These schools are Cleveland, Edison, Egypt Lake, Graham, Kenly, Lockhart, Miles, Pizzo, Sheehy, Twin Lakes and Booker T. Washington Elementary Schools.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals • Demonstrate best financial practices • Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

During the current year, approximately $250,000 from Facilities Matching Funds will be dedicated to the covered courts at the schools listed above.  Funding in subsequent years will be allocated from Facilities Matching Funds.
