Approve Submissions for the Florida School Boards Association 2014 Legislative Platform Items (Government Relations) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
In the past, the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) solicited legislative proposals from school board members throughout the state for inclusion into their Legislative Platform. However for the 2014 Legislative Session, FSBA instituted a new format for development of their program. This new format began last summer by using their 2013 Legislative Platform and requesting input statewide from school board members on whether to retain, remove, or amend each item. The FSBA’s Legislative Committee met on October 24, 2013, to consider the statewide input and developed a proposed Legislative Platform. This proposed platform was then discussed and ratified on December 5, 2013, during FSBA’s Annual Joint Conference.
The FSBA 2014 Legislative Platform is divided into two sections: 1. Priorities for the 2014 Legislative Session These Priorities are the issues that FSBA will pursue most aggressively during the upcoming session. A copy of this section will be delivered to the Governor and to each member of the Florida Legislature. 2. Positions on Issues of Continuing Concern These Positions address a variety of topics and serve to guide FSBA’s advocacy during the legislative session and throughout the year. However, this section is not delivered to the Governor or Legislature. |
