|
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy of empowering dreams, the Hillsborough County Public School District with the support of our sponsors Fifth-Third Bank and Bright House Networks kicked off our inaugural essay contest "Dreams Take Flight in School." Students from elementary, middle, and high schools were encouraged to write an essay of up to 500 words that answered the question: "Who has empowered your dreams?" In our first year we had approximately 500 creative, heart-warming, and empowering entries. The essays ranged from national figures to local individuals who influence their daily lives such as parents and educators. Second place winners at each level will receive a $200 check as their award. The first place winners will receive a check for $300 and an e-reader.
