SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Repurpose Spending of Race to the Top Grant Funding from Funding Permanent Staff Positions to Hiring Contracted Services (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On October 5, 2010, the Board approved the grant application for the Race to the Top (RTTT) grant. The subsequent awarding of the grant included two staff positions within the Information Services (IS) Department, which were used for technology services in support of the grant.  Both positions are now vacant, one individual was transferred into a permanent position and the other left the district for employment elsewhere.

Approval is requested to spend the RTTT funds designated for those two vacated grant positions of contracted supplemental staffing services for the duration of the grant, which ends June 30, 2014.  The RTTT Department has obtained a grant amendment authorizing the use of those funds for contracted services rather than staff positions.

The IS Department will use the contracted supplemental staff services to continue assisting with systems and applications in support of RTTT initiatives that provide teachers, principals, and administrators with the information they need to inform and improve instructional practices, decision making, and overall effectiveness to help students achieve.  The IS Department will use the results of the January 2014, Request for Qualifications 13073-DST IT Supplemental Staffing, and work closely with the Office of Supplier Diversity, to hire qualified supplemental staff to accomplish this requirement.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
•Â Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $61,728.35 are available through the Race to the Top grant.
EVALUATION
Supplemental staff hired to fulfil this requirement will work directly for a Systems Analyst team lead within the IS Department who will provide weekly status reports to the Applications Manager on the progress of their work.
