SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Renewal of the Annual Agreement of Understanding with the Community Based Training (CBT) Sites for Students with Disabilities for the 2014/2015 School Year (Instructional Support Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to renew the Agreement of Understanding with the CBT sites, Publix Super Markets, Inc. and Palm Garden of Tampa, to provide valuable training experiences for students with mild and moderate disabilities.  Upon receipt of training in entry-level positions at a variety of businesses in the community, these students are better prepared to successfully enter the workforce. During the 2014/2015 school year, under this one-year Agreement of Understanding, approximately eight schools (Alonso, Gaither, Hillsborough, Lennard, Riverview, Sickles, Spoto and Wharton High Schools) will participate to provide training opportunities for an estimated total of 60 students with disabilities.

CBT Business Partnership Evaluations were completed by all four participating sites for 2013/2014. The participating business rated students on their performance based on the following criteria:

  • Students display appropriate behavior
  • Students display independence
  • Students follow company policies/rules
  • Students display appropriate dress/hygiene
  • Students perform assigned tasks
  • Overall program effectiveness

During the 2013/2014 school year, the ratings from the above criteria produced the following positive outcomes:

  • 86%  of the students were rated above average in the six areas previously listed
  • 14%  of the students were rated satisfactory in the six areas
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Motivate students to become responsible learners
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The Annual Agreement of Understanding has no financial impact. The estimated cost for transporting students to and from the business sites is approximately $80,000 and is included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
EVALUATION
Evaluations will be concluded on May 22, 2015.
