Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Victor Sampson, LLC (Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Dr. Victor Sampson, Associate Professor, School of Teacher Education at Florida State University, will present four days of professional development to teams of Hillsborough County Public Schools middle and high science and literacy teachers. The training will focus on the ways students support and evaluate ideas through discussion and writing in the context of science. Institute participants will learn the Argument Driven Inquiry instructional framework that provides teachers and students with a process for content literacy instruction that focuses on argumentation and response to informational text.
At the end of the training, site-based teams will meet as vertical teams by their feeder pattern to analyze the science scope and sequence of topics and design two Argument Driven Inquiry lessons. The scope and sequence of topics and developed lessons will be aligned to current state-approved science standards and the Language Arts Florida State Standards for content literacy. |

Review of student achievement data in literacy from the American Institute for Research (A.I.R.) state assessment, End of Course examination student achievement data in Biology, and district semester examinations student achievement data for all middle and high school science courses. | |
