| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| These proposals include strategies for reading text, visual charts, diagrams, interpreting complex sentences, and vocabulary. Also provided are opportunities to work towards attainment of standards in the domains of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The reading instruction incorporates background knowledge, builds strategic competence, and provides support to allow access to complex text rather than simplifying text. The writing instruction draws upon students’ language and background to develop content for writing by providing meaningful engagement with mentor texts. Additionally, the supplemental materials include opportunities to focus on language patterns and text structures to ensure that written communication is meaningful. The speaking and listening instruction provides opportunities for extended discourse and engagement with academic text. It supports different kinds of participant structures to develop meaningful collaborative tasks that allow students to leverage their linguistic ability and cultural background.
In accordance with the Florida Department of Education, Purchasing Policy 6A-1.012(11)(b), the requirement for requesting competitive solicitations for commodities or contractual services from three or more sources is hereby waived for the purchase by district school boards of educational services and any type of copyrighted materials including, without limitation, educational tests, textbooks, and printed instructional materials. |

Funds from Title III, Project 2561 are available in the amount of $229,702.50, for K-2 in 2013/2014.
