Approve Renewal Implementation Agreement with Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Center (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On May 20, 2004, the School Board approved the initial agreement with the AVID Center for pilot middle and high schools in Hillsborough County.  A renewal implementation agreement has been developed for the 2014/2015 school year to continue the program operation, which has expanded since 2004, to include 73 school sites (all middle and high schools).  AVID impacts as many as 9,000 Hillsborough County Public School (HCPS) students annually through the AVID elective class. 

With its focus on leadership, systems, instruction, and culture, the AVID program is designed to prepare students for success in postsecondary institutions. The implementation agreement outlines member roles, materials, trainings, and fees associated with the AVID Center.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The agreement amount of $231,866 includes the annual membership fee for 73 schools, AVID weekly subscriptions for 73 schools, AVID Excel license and training for Pierce, Shields, and Turkey Creek Middle Schools, and the implementation of AVID Elementary for Roland Park K-8 School. Not included in the agreement is the cost of participation at the 2014 AVID Summer Institute-Tampa for 479 HCPS teachers, counselors, and administrators which includes a cost of $316,647.  The total cost of $548,513 will be funded through Project 5378-EXCELerator funds.
EVALUATION
The anticipated date of evaluation will be on June 30, 2015. The AVID Center will provide customized, comparative data reports as well as a full hierarchy of reports comparing overall state data to individualized site reports.
