SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Accept the Amendment to the Microsoft Campus and School Agreement and Approve the Purchase of Microsoft Azure Cloud Services from the Dell Marketing L.P. (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On February 05, 2013, the Board approved the Microsoft Campus and School Agreement (CASA) subscription licensing program allowing the district to run selected Microsoft products. This amendment adds Microsoft Azure services and StorSimple to our current array of Microsoft application, system, and Client Access License (CAL) products.  Microsoft Azure is a collection of cloud-based enterprise services covering application, directory, web, and storage services that are hosted by a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters.  StorSimple is a hardware device solution that consolidates primary, archive, backup, and disaster recovery using a single system that integrates with Windows Azure.  Certified by Microsoft and VMware, StorSimple solutions leverage the cloud to address storage challenges around infrastructure complexity, cost management, and timely data recovery.

District staff plans on using the Azure and StorSimple services to establish cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) capabilities utilizing up to 250 terabytes.  Cloud-based DR will allow the district to recover data from virtually any location with an Internet connection, and test our DR plans without impacting production systems and applications.  Additionally, these services will allow the district to expand into cloud-hosted web and infrastructure services to ensure their availability during any system outage within the district’s data center.
