SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Contract for Florida Virtual Academy at Hillsborough County
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Charter School legislation, 1002.33, F.S., permits individuals, organizations, and community members the opportunity to submit an application to the Board for the creation of a charter school. On December 10, 2013, the Board approved the application for Florida Virtual Academy at Hillsborough County.  The school will serve students in grades K-12 in a virtual education setting using K12 as their state-approved provider.

A copy of the proposed five-year contract for the school is attached.  The original charter application approved by the Board will become Appendix I of this contract and will be available for review in the Charter School Office. The school's academic goals and objectives are found in Appendix II.  Additional information regarding the Staff Compensation Plan is attached as Appendix III.

In the event of a discrepancy between the contract and the charter application, the terms of the contract will prevail. Florida Virtual Academy at Hillsborough County has agreed to all terms of the contract which has been revised to include the most recent revisions to 1002.33, F.S.

A copy of the application review summary is attached indicating where weaknesses are addressed in the contract.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
The charter school's first year enrollment projection of 340 students will generate approximately $2,063,028 in FEFP (Part I) funds.  The FEFP will be adjusted based on course completion as required by statute. The District retains a five percent administrative fee for up to and including 250 students ($78,742) of FEFP funds to offset services provided by the District. This amount will also be adjusted based on course completion. The school will also qualify for categorical and grant funds as appropriate and allowed by Florida statutes.
