Approve the Fieldwork Experience Agreement between Nova Southeastern University, Inc., and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapy Assistant Fieldwork Experience (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to enter into an agreement with Nova Southeastern University, Inc. for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapy Assistant fieldwork experience. Nova Southeastern University, Inc., requires students enrolled in its Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physical Therapy Assistant programs to receive fieldwork experience as part of their instruction. The Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physical Therapy Assistant fieldwork programs have been successful in Hillsborough County Public Schools since 1997.

The Department of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) recognizes the need for trained personnel in Occupational/Physical Therapy due to a current shortage nationwide and has offered to provide the students at Nova Southeastern University, Inc., the necessary fieldwork experience with district Occupational/Physical Therapists at various school sites. Nova Southeastern University, Inc., students will assist in assessing, documenting, and developing treatment plans with short-term and long-term goals for students receiving Occupational and Physical Therapy services. District personnel will have the opportunity to observe and evaluate the Nova Southeastern University, Inc., students for prospective employment in the district. This agreement is for a two-year term beginning September 10, 2014, and ending June 30, 2016.
