Driver Education - Impacting Students in Hillsborough County Public Schools (Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Initiative: The Driver Education Program is offered in all 27 high schools. Our 38 Driver Education instructors provide classroom and behind the wheel instruction designed to teach students to become safe and competent drivers. In addition, we serve as Third Party Testers for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles under the Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP).
Goals: To provide students with the skills and competencies to safely operate a motor vehicle for life. Targeted Population: The Driver Education Program serves approximately 8,000 students both during the regular school year and during a two-week summer course. Timeline: The Driver Education Program operates in perpetuity and is funded by traffic fines designated for driver education under Florida's Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act and a student fee of $40. Involvement: The Driver Education Program is supported by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Tampa Police Department, and a variety of agencies and organizations committed to public safety. |
