Student Alliance for Public Schools – American Graduates Heroes Champion
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Cindy Stuart asked to bring this recognition forward.  Each year Public Broadcasting Stations (PBS) nationwide have a day of programming focused on informing the public about issues related to high school graduation in our country.  The day is titled “American Graduates Day.”  This year local PBS stations were asked to nominate individuals in their community that were working to raise high school graduation rates.  WEDU chose Melissa Erickson as one of the “American Graduates Heroes Champions.”  Melissa serves as the Executive Director of the Alliance for Public Schools and currently is working on student identified solutions to raising graduation rates at many of our senior high schools.  WEDU shadowed Melissa during one of her student meetings at Jefferson High School.  The video you will see tonight highlights what the Jefferson High School students were working on over the summer.
