SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Secondary Grant Application Submissions Between January 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016, by the Career and Technical Education Department and, if Approved, Accept Grant Funds During That Time Period (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Florida Department of Education's Division of Career and Adult Education requires school districts to submit proposals in a consolidated format for the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV).  The purpose of this act is to support Career and Technical Education by increasing the number of students taking rigorous curriculum, increasing high school graduation rates, increasing student choice and acceleration to postsecondary, reducing the number of students needing postsecondary remediation and increasing numbers continuing on to postsecondary education.

Approval for accepting these entitlement grant funds through June 2016 allows completion of the current grant year and provides alignment with federal grant cycles going forward.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
If approved, federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Secondary grant funds will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal budget.  The 2014/2015 grant award is $1,983,991; plus roll-forward funds yet to be determined.
EVALUATION
In 2013/2014, over 50,000 students participated in CTE programs which are supported by this grant. Evaluations are performed for all funded grants as required by the grant funding authority.
