Accept the Piggyback Between Mohawk Resources, LTD and Department of Management Services (DMS) Contract #075-490-07-ACS Vehicle Lifts and Related Garage Equipment for the Purchase of Automotive Equipment (Business Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We are requesting approval for the purchase of equipment and supplies to be utilized for the Automotive Training Curriculum at Erwin Technical Center, Bloomingdale High School, and East Bay High School.  This program prepares students to become state-of-the-art automotive technicians who can analyze, repair, and maintain high-tech automobiles to manufacturers' specifications.  It also includes areas of automotive within the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Maintenance and Light Repair framework, and helps to prepare students for employment in numerous automotive positions after graduation or further education.  

The heavy duty 4-post rack (lift), housed at Erwin Technical Center, is recommended by the advisory committee and by all qualifications is the "industry-standard" used by approximately 130 major dealerships and repair facilities in Hillsborough County.  It should also be noted that Erwin Technical Center will be hosting the regional Skills USA contest, which consists of high school students from multiple counties participating in a skills contest requiring the use of this equipment.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Funds of $28,379 are available in Project 9004 for Erwin Technical Center and $25,367 in Project 2728 for Bloomingdale and East Bay High Schools.
EVALUATION
A survey of students and advisory committee members will be conducted to seek feedback regarding the impact of this equipment on completion, certification, and job placement of students.
