EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
As a result of the implementation of the new Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS) and upcoming Florida Standards Assessment (FSA), the Elementary Math Department has identified the need for a supplemental parent/community resource to assist parents in understanding the content and instructional strategies embedded in the standards. This need was identified through feedback from school administrators, parents, and community members, many of whom expressed their concerns and desire for additional support materials at the district elementary mathematics parent presentations.
Ready Mathematics practice and Problem Solving is a supplemental material that matches our MAFS; both the content standards and the practice standards. These materials can be utilized flexibly by our teachers during instruction and/or as independent practice in class, after school, and at home. Each lesson within the materials provides a family letter that helps parents or caregivers understand the content and instructional method so that they can better participate in their child’s mathematics education. Many of the problems within the materials include question structures that students may see on our new FSA. These include rigorous performance tasks (Natural Language) that integrate concepts and skills from multiple standards and ask students to justify their thinking (Math Practice Standard: Construct Viable Arguments). Each student in grades 2-5 across our 145 elementary schools will receive a student version of the Ready Mathematics Practice and Problem Solving book. Each teacher of mathematics in grades 2-5 will receive a Ready Mathematics Practice and Problem Solving Teacher Guide. Curriculum Associates, LLC is designated as sole-source and owns the copyright to Ready Mathematics Practice and Problem Solving Instructional resources. This purchase is exempt from the requesting competitive solicitations by the Florida Department of Education 6A.-1.012 Purchasing Policies (11) (b). |
