On September 30, 2014, the School Board approved the schematic design and expenditure for modular buildings to convert Tinker Elementary to a K-8 grade configuration.  The scope included six (6), 24’ x 36’ classroom buildings consisting of 20 permanent classrooms.       

District staff will validate, and then amend the Florida Inventory of School Houses (FISH) reports for Tinker Elementary, changing its classification from an elementary to a combination (K-8) school.  Converting the elementary (K-5) to a K-8 allows the children of military personnel living on MacDill Air Force base the opportunity to remain at Tinker, on base, through 8^th grade.  This provides a greater degree of security and convenience for the military families by allowing students to stay within the base.  Access to the base can be onerous to enter and exit as well for buses picking up students.  The approved modular units will assist to accommodate the additional grade levels.
