Approve Memorandum of Agreement Between Starting Right, Now (SRN) and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida to Support the Needs of Homeless Students in the High School Setting (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
SRN is a community-based program meeting the needs of the growing population of homeless families and children in Hillsborough County.  This organization has developed a working relationship with the school district to help support homeless high school students.  Once identified and accepted, the homeless students work with volunteer mentors from the community, who become their advocate to develop and implement a plan to help them reach on-time graduation, actualize their educational goals, and propel them toward careers in fields that capitalize on their potential.  Students will be exposed to pathways via the military, postsecondary-vocational education, and college as avenues to meet their goals and maximize their potential.  This agreement will pay for a portion of a social worker's time each week to work with Starting Right, Now to assist more students with these services.  The estimated program period will occur from March 4, 2015 - June 30, 2015.

SRN will pay salary and benefits associated with this position in the amount of $24,162.  The provider has agreed to work in cooperation with staff and in partnership with other educators and community agency representatives.  The district will provide office space and phone service, when feasible.
EVALUATION
Program services are evaluated by the Executive Director of SRN and the Supervisor of School Social Work Services.  Input will also be sought from the administrators and school social workers of the participating schools.  Evaluation components will include student progress in school; the coordination of services between the student, SRN mentor, school staff, families, and appropriate community resources, and post-graduation plans.
