Recognition of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Governor’s Shine Award (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Verizon Foundation recognizes educators and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education through the Governor’s Shine Award.  The Governor’s Shine Award honors the important role inspirational teachers play in developing the potential of their students and whose inspirational approach to teaching stimulates student learning. These teachers widen students’ horizons and encourage them to explore a touchstone to paths of achieving more.

This year, the Governor’s Shine Award recipients were nine K-12 STEM teachers from Florida, including one winner form Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Sue Traynham, mathematics teacher from Sickles High School, was honored during a Governor’s cabinet meeting in Tallahassee on December 9, 2014.

Ms. Traynham has taught math courses at Sickles High School since 2001 and continually goes above and beyond to ensure the success of her students. She is creative and innovative in her approach of teaching mathematics and has contributed greatly to the articulation of the math curriculum. She has been teaching for more than 25 years.
