SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Accept the Amendment to Microsoft Agreement #1C36098 and Approve the Purchase of Microsoft Azure Cloud Services from Dell Marketing L.P. (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On June 10, 2014, the Board approved the Purchase of Microsoft Azure Cloud Services from Dell Marketing L.P. for a one-year subscription.  This amendment continues the district’s use of Microsoft Azure services and provides an enhanced model StorSimple device.   Microsoft Azure is a collection of cloud-based enterprise services covering application, directory, web, and storage services that are hosted by a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. StorSimple is a hardware device solution that consolidates primary, archive, backup, and disaster recovery using a single system that integrates with Windows Azure. Certified by Microsoft and VMware, StorSimple solutions leverage the cloud to address storage challenges around infrastructure complexity, cost management, and timely data recovery.

District staff has successfully used the Azure service and StorSimple device to establish cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) capabilities.  Cloud-based DR services allows the district to recover data from virtually any location with an Internet connection, and test our DR plans without impacting production systems and applications. In addition the district staff has migrated key infrastructure applications to the Azure service.  This agenda item authorizes continued use and expansion of Microsoft’s Azure cloud-hosted and infrastructure services.

The term of this amendment is for a one-year period, with an annual renewal, subject to negotiations and mutual agreement.  The Superintendent is authorized to approve any renewal agreements, per the terms of the specifications.  Microsoft requires the School Board Chair's signature to acknowledge acceptance of this amendment prior to Microsoft's final signature.
