Approve Acquisition of 8921 Brittany Way, Highway 301 and State Road 60 (Silo Bend), Tampa, Florida, as an Ancillary Site for the Information & Technology Division

On March 25, 2014, the School Board of Hillsborough County was presented the Sunera Information & Technology Division assessment report.  The report  recommended location of an off-site data center, outside of the coastal high hazard area, and consolidation of some Information & Technology operational staff, resources and services.  A School Board authorized broker was given specific size, space and location requirements for either potential lease or acquisition of a facility.

Numerous sites were presented to district staff for consideration and site visits.  Brittany Way, a one-story building consisting of 32,000+/- square feet located within the Silo Bend Commercial Park on Highway 301 in Tampa, met the majority of the criteria specified.

Acquisition of Silo Bend would allow the district to relocate Information & Technology personnel from the Lois Center and various Information & Technology personnel and equipment from the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center.  The area at Lois will be reused for a Transportation satellite facility, as recommended in the 2014 Transportation Department Improvement Plan.

Funds in the amount of $2,525,000 for the purchase of 8921 Brittany Way, Tampa, Florida, along with attorney fees, document recording and closing fees, will be derived from Local Millage.
