SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with C.E. Mendez Foundation, Inc. to Provide Professional Development and Resources to Mental Health Staff at the Designated Schools Within the Project Prevent Grant (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
With approval, this Agreement for Technical Services will continue the partnership between The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and the C.E. Mendez Foundation.  The C.E. Mendez Foundation provides programs designed to mitigate the risk factors and enhance protective factors related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, as well as provides social emotional learning skills to students.  As a component of Project Prevent, the District is expanding its partnership with the C.E. Mendez Foundation to include materials for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Training will be offered for mental health staff to develop further understanding of the materials and how they are used as interventions with individual and small groups of students.  Focus groups will be held to allow mental health staff to give vital input throughout implementation to ensure students’ needs are being met.  Technical assistance will be provided to mental health staff in the 21 Prevent schools to support implementation efforts.  Too Good for Drugs and Too Good for Violence is designated as a model program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and rated by the National Registry of Evidence Based Programs and Practices.

Funding for this project will be paid from the Project Prevent Grant in the amount of $83,900.
