SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Annual Agreements of Understanding with the Community Based Training (CBT) Sites for Students with Disabilities for 2015/2106 (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval for the Agreements of Understanding with the CBT sites, Accentia Health Care, and Palm Garden of Tampa, to provide valuable training experiences for students with mild and moderate disabilities. Upon receipt of training in entry-level positions at a variety of businesses in the community, participating students are better prepared to successfully enter the workforce. During the 2015/2016 school year, under this one-year Agreement of Understanding, approximately two schools (Freedom and Gaither) are projected to participate. An estimated number of 24 students with disabilities will receive training opportunities.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Motivate students to become responsible learners
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The Annual Agreements of Understanding have no financial impact. The estimated cost for transporting students to and from the business sites is approximately $25,000 and is included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
EVALUATION
CBT Business Partnership Evaluations were completed by all three participating sites for 2014/2015. The participating businesses rated students on their performance based on the following criteria:

  • Students display appropriate behavior
  • Students display independence
  • Students follow company policies/rules
  • Students display appropriate dress/hygiene
  • Students perform assigned tasks
  • Overall program effectiveness

During the 2014/2015 school year, the ratings from the above criteria produced the following positive outcomes:

  • 77 percent of the students were rated above average in the 6 areas previously listed
  • 23 percent of the students were rated satisfactory in the 6 areas

Businesses involved will be given quarterly evaluations for completion, with the final evaluations to be concluded by June 30, 2016.
