SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreements of Understanding with Community Work Exposure (CWE) Sites for Students with Disabilities for 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The CWE sites are Beaux Arts Gallery, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, Trinity Café, and Winthrop Town Center.  Approval is requested to provide training opportunities for students with disabilities to gain essential employment skills. CWE offers career exploration experiences and opportunities to job shadow professionals in different careers.

The intent of this program is to provide exposure to multiple positions, rather than mastery of any given position. During the 2015/2016 school year, under this two-year Agreement of Understanding, three schools, (LaVoy Exceptional Center, Riverview High School, and Willis Peters Exceptional Center) will participate. An estimated number of 30 students with disabilities will receive training opportunities.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Motivate students to become responsible learners
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The estimated cost for transporting students to and from the business sites is approximately $26,000 for the two-year period and is included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
EVALUATION
CWE Business Partnership Evaluations were completed by participating sites for 2013/2014 and 2014/2015. The participating businesses rated students in their performance based on the following criteria:

  • Students display appropriate behavior
  • Students display independence
  • Students follow company policies/rules
  • Students display appropriate dress/hygiene
  • Students perform assigned tasks
  • Overall program effectiveness

During 2013/2014 and 2014/2015, the ratings from the above criteria produced the following positive outcomes:

  • 100 percent of the students were rated above average in the 6 areas previously listed

Businesses involved will be given quarterly evaluations for completion, with the final evaluations to be conducted by June 30, 2017.
