SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Naming of the Playground at LaVoy Exceptional Center
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The LaVoy Exceptional Center past and present faculty, staff, community partners, and stakeholders have requested that the playground at LaVoy Exceptional Center be named in honor of Jack Stodghill, Mose Taylor and Edward Vargus: The Stodghill, Taylor and Vargus Exceptional Center Playground.
These three gentlemen have contributed a variety of support for the Exceptional Center over the past 25 years. They held many fund-raisers, collected donations for classroom teachers to support the unique life skill needs of the student population at LaVoy Exceptional Center. Mr. Stodghill, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Vargus have provided a variety of Braille items, vision sensory apparatus, rugs, sports uniforms for Special Olympics, and various other essentials for students and teachers. In 2013 the playground was removed due to worn parts and structural damage. It would be an honor to the past and present faculty, staff, community partners and stakeholders to have the playground named for these three gentlemen.
