Approve the Agreement for Technical Services (ATS) with Committee for Children (Student Services Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Upon approval, this ATS will create the partnership between The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida (HCPS) and the creators of the Second Step program, Committee for Children. Second Step is a social-emotional learning skills curriculum for students in grades K-8. This curriculum will be utilized at Project PREVENT elementary and middle schools. These schools will include:
Elementary Schools: Booker T. Washington, Clair Mel, Folsom, Ippolito, Robles, Shaw, Sulphur Springs, Thonotosassa Middle Schools: Adams, Dowdell, Greco, Jennings, Madison, McLane, Memorial, Sligh, Van Buren The Second Step program includes easy-to-teach classroom lessons that enhance students' social-emotional competence through skill-building activities. As a component of Project PREVENT, these lessons will be adapted to provide Tier Two and Tier Three levels of support for students in need. Training will be offered for mental health staff to provide program orientation and to allow staff to develop strategies for use with students in individualized and small group settings. Technical assistance will be provided by both district staff and Committee for Children to support implementation efforts and ensure successful expansion of program services available for students. |

Funding for this project will be paid from the Project PREVENT Grant in the amount of $72,206. This amount is approximately 10 percent of the Year 2 allocation. The grant project is designed to build internal capacity so this program can be sustained at these project sites after the grant funding ends. | |
EVALUATION | |
Under the terms of the grant an external evaluator contracted by HCPS will evaluate the project providing annual reports to the project directors, the Assessment and Accountability Department, and the United States Department of Education. Copies of the report and the final evaluation report will be provided to HCPS Assessment and Accountability Department annually. | |
