Recognition of the Partnership Between Hillsborough County Public Schools and The Council of the Great City Schools (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Council of the Great City Schools is the only national organization exclusively representing the needs of urban public schools. Composed of 68 large city school districts, its mission is to promote the cause of urban schools and to advocate for and to assist in the improvement of public education in the nation’s major cities through legislation, research, and media relations. The organization also provides a network for school districts sharing common problems to exchange information, and to collectively address new challenges as they emerge in order to deliver the best possible education for urban youth.

The Council provides services to its members in the areas of legislation, research, communications, curriculum and instruction, and management. The group convenes two major conferences each year on promising practices in urban education; conducts studies on urban school conditions and trends; and operates ongoing networks of senior personnel, communications, curriculum, research, technology, and others. The Council was founded in 1956 and incorporated in 1961, and has its headquarters in Washington, DC.
