SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Research Subaward Agreement #ORSP-12041-26576-HI Between Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Board of Trustees and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
FGCU has been awarded a State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) to support the Check and Connect program, a research-based model of intervention that involves assigning mentors to identified students in order to promote student engagement. Upon approval, program implementation will commence at Memorial and Pierce middle schools and Leto and Middleton high schools.   Check and Connect program services will build capacity to increase graduation rates and include provisions for technical assistance to support implementation in the identified schools.  The project period will commence upon Board approval and conclude on September 30, 2016.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $60,899.00 will be available in the State Personnel Development Grant Special Revenue Funds. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is to be assigned.  Upon approval, an account and project number will be created in collaboration with the Special Revenue Department in order for the District to receive these funds.
EVALUATION
As the fiscal agent for the SPDG, FGCU staff will be responsible for conducting an evaluation of all the programs that it funds through this grant project.  The Student Services staff directly involved with the implementation efforts will receive an evaluation report and subsequently share findings with pertinent district staff.
