Recognition of the National Medalists for the 2016 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation's youth and provided opportunities for creative teens in grades 7 through 12.  Prior winners include notable American writers and artists such as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Stephen King, and Robert Redford.

In our second year of being a regional affiliate, we received over 1,300 art and writing entries; 352 of those works received regional awards during our March 10, 2016, reception at Blake High School.  The 82 middle and high school students who were awarded Gold Key honors automatically advanced for national adjudication.

The national Gold, American Visions, and American Voices Medalists will be celebrated on June 2, 2016, with a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  We are grateful to Suncoast Credit Union for being the presenting sponsor and also the Lightning Foundation and Hillsborough Education Foundation for their support.
