Approve Agreement for Medical Director Services with Medical Direction Consultants, Inc. for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program at Learey Technical College - 2016/2017
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
We request approval of the agreement for medical director services with Medical Direction Consultants, Inc. for 2016/2017 to ensure continuity of program compliance with the designation of Joe A. Nelson, D.O., M.S., as Medical Director.
EMT programs require oversight by a medical director to ensure that all instruction meets the training and qualification protocols. In addition to overseeing the program, Dr. Nelson also serves as the chairperson of the EMT advisory committee and acts as a liaison with local medical providers. The medical director actively participates in teaching and verifying student competency hours, as well as the selection of program faculty and students. The medical director maintains substantial knowledge in all aspects of emergency medicine in Florida, acts as a crew member on an Emergency Medical Services vehicle at least ten hours per year, and participates in state and local quality assurance programs. |
|
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
• Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
Funds of $21,900 are generated through collection of the prorated medical director fee charged to adult students in the EMT program. This fee is on the Postsecondary Fee Schedule which is approved annually by the School Board. A trust account for fee collection and remittance to the district is included in the Learey Technical College internal accounts budget.
EVALUATION | |
During the 2015/2016 school year, 126 students were enrolled in the EMT program. This agreement and the performance of the medical director are reviewed and updated annually for compliance with the requirements of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, Florida Fire College, Florida Department of Education, and the Commission on Occupational Education. Additionally, the medical director’s compensation and resulting student fee are reviewed for assurance that the amounts are reasonable and aligned with that of other programs throughout the state.
