EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Initiative: The Athletics Department, in support of district goals and Florida Standards, provides ongoing training and educational opportunities in high school athletics.

Goals: To enhance the culture of high school athletics in Hillsborough County Public Schools through a program developed with an emphasis on a character-building sports experience.

Targeted Population: This program serves all certified athletic coaches, high school administrators, and select groups of student-athletes who in turn develop leadership skills by taking ideas and information back to their school site to disseminate information and provide example.

Timeline: Coaches attend a three-hour continuing learning session annually. Presentations are scheduled throughout the school year and at different times of day to keep the number of attendees conducive to small group discussion and to allow coaches to plan around athletic schedules. Student groups attend six 75-minute interactive sessions integrating group learning and case study techniques.

Professional/Staff Development: All Florida Department of Education certified athletic coaches and administrators are required to attend an annual session. The training hours and submission of successful follow-up material qualify for inservice points needed for recertification.

Transferability: The content has been developed by the Positive Coaching Alliance Program (PCA) in conjunction with the Athletics Department. PCA is an award winning and widely recognized program used across the nation by high schools, colleges, and amateur sports groups.

Involvement: Each high school in the district participates in the PCA Program. Specialized sessions for coaches, administrators, students, and parents have been presented over the past six years of partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools. Sponsorship has been provided by The Triad Foundation.
