Approve Teacher Training Instructors for New Teacher Orientation 2016 (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the attached listing of instructors who will conduct New Teacher Orientation. This training is for all newly hired instructional personnel. This training will be held at Armwood High School from July 18–July 21, 2016. This year, New Teacher Orientation will be differentiated to meet the needs of both novice and experienced staff. On July 18 and 19, 2016, all newly hired staff is required to attend an overview of the vision and initiatives of Hillsborough County Public Schools. In addition, participants will be oriented to the district’s evaluation rubric, observation process, and the Principles of Professional Conduct.

On July 20 and 21, novice staff will engage in professional learning on the following topics: classroom management, planning, high expectations, and professionalism. Experienced staff will have the option to attend sessions on planning, higher-order questions, classroom management, and differentiated instruction based on their personal and professional needs.

Hours of service will be from 7:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. for 4 days of training, totaling 32 hours of service and up to 5 hours of prep time for all trainers. 

Based on the number of teachers participating in the training, permission is requested to add or delete trainer names to or from the list not to exceed the amount budgeted.

Funds will be available in fiscal year 2016/2017 budget through the Teacher Training, Title II budget project 3187.  The attached list of trainers totals $205,663.45.  An additional $9,419.70 has been budgeted to cover changes to the list for a total of $215,083.15.
