SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Spot Survey 4.6 for McDonald Elementary School and the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Florida Statute 1013.31 requires all school districts to submit an educational plant survey once every five years to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). The survey establishes the condition of existing facilities, and makes recommendations for repairs, major renovations, remodeling, and capacity improvements, based on actual and anticipated needs. As exceptions to original survey recommendations arise, the Board is required to amend the educational plant survey by submitting a “spot survey” to FDOE.

On June 10, 2014, the School Board approved the District’s 2015-2019 FDOE 5-Year Educational Plant Survey 4.1. A spot survey is now required to amend this survey, adding recommendations for remodeling the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center (ROSSAC) to accommodate departmental reorganization, thereby improving efficiency and operations, and to reclassify in Florida Inventory of School Housing (F.I.S.H) four Resource Rooms at McDonald Elementary to serve as a Media Group Projects Room, CCTV Production Room, a Student Activities Area, and an Administrative Storage Room.

The reclassification of the four Resource Rooms at McDonald will have no financial impact to the School Board.  The scope of the recommended remodeling at ROSSAC has not yet been finalized and the project cost will be brought to the School Board as a separate agenda item.
